Paris Fashion Week

Well, you are going to be well clothed this Fall, that's for sure. We have seen some amazing things in New York and here in Paris, and I can barely wait for the designers to hurry up and make all the fabulous things we are ordering!!

There are many reasons to love being in Paris: the wine, the food, and simply being in the street. But the people! The people watching during Fashion Week is pretty inspiring. From the Zoolander moment we had at Colette and then again a few doors down at the Colette/Chanel pop-up shop, to the drop-dead fabulous but completely uncontrived fashion perfection mastered by Parisian women, to painfully creative and unspeakably inspiring designers, not least of which pictured below: Giada Forte, with her brother Paulo. I had the pleasure of meeting them again this season, in a Shakespearean sort-of tent erected by them to explain the inspiration behind the Forte.Forte/Mantero collaboratio for FW11. Suffice it to say it's fabulous.

And of course, so are they! Giada was so beautifully dressed, and so unlike anyone I have seen. I can hardly explain her: she was wearing a jewel in her hair... the description can't do it justice. She is positively stunning. Paulo of course kept it all very soft as well, but very masculine and pulled together. Then again, he could wear a garbage bag and I would still love him.

And of course, then there is the whole 'fashion-show' scene. It's so weird, and somehow, strangely, sort-of fun. You wait around for a while, or a really long time, depending. When you finally get in, a whole bunch of social posturing happens, lots of determination of who is the most important, celebrity photographing, fighting over seats, etc. What seems like hours later, the show starts, it's maybe 8 minutes long, and then it's over!! Almost a vague relief, because the room is inevitably too warm, and the jostling can finally end. Vanessa Bruno's runway show, a video segment here below shot by yours truly (be warned: you may want to take a Gravol before watching) was no different, but I really loved a lot of pieces from this collection. They are heavily layered on the runway, which I think is very cool, and has some wonderful applications for real-life dressing.

And of course, you can't deny the importance of Isabel Marant. Not only is she hugely influential, but she rules. I am super feeling the whole Navajo thing, and the part of the collection off the runway was as strong as what was on it I thought.

And of course it's just nice to be in Paris, but I have to say, they have no idea how to spell.
